This year, the Upper Moreland Boys Indoor Track Team has had one of its most successful seasons in school history. By qualifying for New Balance Indoor Nationals, they accomplished something truly remarkable. New Balance Indoor Nationals is held in Boston, Massachusetts, and is one of the most famous track meets in modern day track and field. Some of the best high schoolers in the nation compete at this 4-day competition. Many people probably know that New Balance Nationals is known for its famous backpack. New Balance creates a new backpack every year for every athlete attending the indoor and outdoor nationals, which is something that all the athletes look forward to receiving.
The Upper Moreland team brought a total of 4 Juniors to the meet that included: John Allen, Keith Bruce, Malik Rodgers and Thomas Walker, and 2 Seniors, Captains Levi Brennan and Liam Hawk . The Golden Bears competed in the Sprint Medley Relay, 4x400 Relay and the Open 400, where Junior Malik Rodgers ran a personal best of 49.03. The team had the help of Coach Teri Bizzle and Coach Chante Moore-Torres to qualify for the National track meet, enter the team in extra meets/invitationals and schedule weekend practices, so that the team grew stronger and faster. Throughout the months of February and early March, this team worked hard to achieve their goal of going to New Balance Indoor Nationals and obviously getting the famous backpack. Now heading into the outdoor season, the Golden Bears are one of the most overlooked teams in the Suburban One Track League. With this huge accomplishment for the Bears, the other teams need to watch out!!
The Bears look forward to qualifying and competing in New Balance Outdoor Nationals to be held this June 19th through June 22nd at the University of Pennsylvania's Franklin Field.
