Papa Haydn & The Boys, featuring Haydn’s Mass for Troubled Times - Saturday, May 16, 7:30 p.m., at Willow Grove United Methodist Church
Austrian composer Franz Joseph Haydn (1732-1809) is known as “Papa” because of his status as the originator and champion of many classical musical forms. Hildegarde von Bingen (1098-1179) was a medieval abbess, writer, philosopher, and one of the earliest known female composers (we admit to taking some liberties calling her “Mama”). The concert will pull musical threads and social themes through to the present day, and feature historic masterpieces and whimsical surprises.
