The Upper Moreland Police Department will be taking part 2017 Thanksgiving "Click It or Ticket" (CIOT) Seat Belt Mobilization
The Buckle Up PA 2017 Thanksgiving CIOT Seat Belt Enforcement Mobilization is scheduled for November 20 – December 3, 2017 and will include the Thanksgiving Holiday weekend. The goal of the Thanksgiving Seat Belt Mobilization is to maximize both day and nighttime seat belt use compliance by focusing on roadways with high unbelted crashes, injuries and deaths by initiating a combination of enforcement and public awareness activities. Buckle Up PA has invited 250 law enforcement agencies to participate in this mobilization.
The law enforcement agencies selected to participate in this mobilization was based on a Crash Data Selection process. The participating 250 agencies represent the jurisdiction with the greatest number of unbelted crashes and fatalities in the state. Participating law enforcement agencies will be required to schedule 50% of their enforcement details at night from 2100 hours to 0400 hours for this 14-day mobilization.
The more seat belt enforcement and community awareness completed provides the best opportunity to reduce unbuckled crashes and increase seat belt use for that segment of the driving population that does not buckle up. Even though Pennsylvania has seen a reduction in unbelted fatalities, an inordinate amount of unbuckled crashes and fatalities occur during nighttime hours. Police will schedule Enforcement Patrols and Traffic Enforcement Zones to help address this ongoing problem.
BUPA will again join forces with PA’s Impaired Driving Projects to plan and coordinate Seat Belt and Impaired Driving enforcement details during the 2017 Thanksgiving CIOT Mobilization. The goal of this initiative is to reduce the number of unbelted and impaired driving crashes and fatalities through coordinated enforcement and public awareness during nighttime hours.
BUPA believes the only way to convince the remaining 14% of non-seat belt users to buckle up is to write the primary citation for those under the age of 18 and the second seat belt citation for those over the age of 18.
Our message is simple; Law enforcement will be writing Seat Belt tickets to save lives, so Buckle Up Day or Night.
