The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) announced today that construction has been completed on a $3.9 million project to replace the bridge that carries Warminster Road over Pennypack Creek in Upper Moreland Township and Hatboro Borough, Montgomery County. The new bridge was reopened to traffic this morning.
PennDOT’s contractor replaced the 136-year-old concrete encased steel beam structure with a prestressed concrete box beam bridge, measuring 110 feet long and 38 feet wide. The new bridge has wider lanes and shoulders to improve traffic safety for the estimated 11,783 motorists who travel over the structure daily.
Additional enhancements included constructing a five-foot wide sidewalk for pedestrians; placing a pedestrian rapid flashing beacon signal on the south approach; resurfacing the approach roadways; and installing new signing, pavement markings, and guiderail.
Allen Myers, LP of Worcester, PA was the general contractor on this bridge improvement project, which was financed with 100 percent state funds.
